Who’s Kidding Themselves?

Morning all,

Another Monday has arrived upon us which means it’s time for another #MondayMotivation post.

Today’s post is all about HELP.  We all need help at some point in our lives and anybody that believes otherwise is kidding themselves.  Receiving or asking for help can sometimes appear to some people as a bad thing and that’s why many people resist until there is no other option and at this point it becomes less about choice rather than necessity.

So the point of this article is to dispel any common assumptions and to tell you what asking or receiving help actually means.

It’s an assumption that to ask for help is a sign of weakness.

It’s an assumption that if I receive help you must reciprocate it.

It’s an assumption that allowing someone to help me means I lose control.

It’s an assumption that if I ask for help I’m burdening someone.

It’s an assumption that you shouldn’t ask for help because you should be able to sort it out yourself.

These are the sort of thoughts that run through our minds and prevent us from reaching out and getting help when we need it most.

But by asking or receiving help actually shows great strength rather than great weakness.  It’s purely your perspective that needs retuning.  We all have great gifts we can share and they come in all manner of ways: skills, time, connections, talent, resources, insights and experience.  And I would imagine most people would gladly share them if asked.

When we work together we can produce better outcomes and more innovative ways to solve a problem and in a fraction of the time than if we were going it alone.

That’s the reality of it.  And that applies to individuals, business, communities, nations and even the world.  So none of us can exempt ourselves from it, that’s one thing you don’t have a choice over.  There is strength in our vulnerability and that comes from being designed to work together to create amazing things.

If you ignore the signs and signals of people trying to help you don’t be surprised if you find yourself worse off in the long run.  Help wouldn’t be at hand if it wasn’t seen as necessary, so obviously someone is seeing something you are not.  Every successful action and triumph has received some amount of help to get there, FACT.  So don’t be so self-righteous to think you are above help, you’re not.

Don’t shy away from giving or receiving help.  You will be richer for it in more ways than you may realise.

Have a great week guys.

Stay strong and live, love and laugh!

Dan
