Kindness

Morning all,

Today’s #MondayMotivation post is all about kindness.

Did you know it was random acts of kindness day Saturday just gone?  Unsurprisingly it was about people making random acts of kindness and it’s an absolute amazing idea.  I think we are all guilty of being in our own bubbles and shy away from helping or making an extra effort to benefit someone else unless there is a physical or financial reward.  I know personally I can definitely think of 2 or 3 specific times last week when I could have been of assistance to someone but instead just carried on with my day.  Now in reflection I wish I had acted differently.

But unfortunately as always we need that little spark up our arses sometimes to make a change or to even become aware or these things.  I hope that this post is just that for you.

A random act of kindness can come in many forms, some planned and some spontaneous.  You could make a difference to someone and be there to see what your effort meant to them or you could act to benefit someone and remain completely anonymous.  This latter one was the example in BBC news report last year where someone had purchased lots of items in a vending machine at a hospital and just left them in the bottom for whom ever found them.

Our egos will always want to choose the former example so to get that acknowledgement and to feel appreciated.  But do we really need that?  Yes and no.  Both ways of acting should give you an up lifting feeling and make you feel good about yourself just knowing that you have helped someone.  Just writing this I feel happier and more positive than I did before I started and I haven’t even acted yet.

Such feelings I feel can become addictive and because of this, just one person acting could cause a chain reaction of other random kindness acts that could just keep spreading.  If there was one good thing to be addicted to it has got to be this.

The hardest part of all of this is just doing that first one.  The fear, the apprehension, the possible judgement from others.  That little voice in your head will be telling you a million and one reasons or more why you shouldn’t act.  Why?  Because what your about to do isn’t normal and it’s fearful of the unknown.  Do it once and that fear will subside when you realise there is nothing to be scared of.

I implore you to make an effort when you can to help or benefit an other in anyway you see fit.  I’m going to try.  If we all did this the world would be a happier place.

Have a great week everyone.

Stay strong and live, love and laugh!

Dan
