It’s All In Your Head

Morning all,

Time for another #MondayMotivation post to kick start this week off.

Lately I’ve catching a few of the Eat Well For Less programmes, if you haven’t seen it, do see if you can catch some as it is an eye opener to how much money we could save if we shopped smarter.

Where I’m going with this you might be thinking.  Well, during the programme they remove all the food in the house and restock the cupboards all with generic labelled food, so they can’t tell if it is a branded make or a supermarkets own brand.

What always amuses me is at the end of the programme when the family find out what was swapped out for their usual brands.  And it happens every time where they are shocked to find out that what they thought was their usual product in fact was a cheaper option, or they are convinced that it’s been swapped out when in fact it hasn’t.

So what on earth is going on, surely us seeing that label doesn’t make a difference does it?  Well it actually does.

It’s All In Your Head

What is happening is their brain is receiving different sensory inputs from sight, sound, smell and taste. In a sense they were being fooled by their own brain based on their perceptions.

It’s All In Your Head

Now my question is, how often are we being fooled by our brain?

The answer is actually all the time. Our own realities are an amalgamation of all the sensory inputs and the perceptions of our past experiences, our expectations and our perceived knowledge. Which basically means we all see the world differently.

Not one person will see the world completely as you do, which means when you communicate with people you need to understand this fact. Taking the time to listen and talk to people before presuming their understanding is of minimal effort.

We can’t fight it, it is what it is and we are manipulated everyday by it all. But we can take the time to think before we act and to take the time to try and understand another persons perceptions.

Bit of a deep one isn’t it, until next week guys have a great week.

Have a great week everyone.

Stay strong and live, love and laugh!

Dan
