4 Rules To Stick By

Morning all,

This weeks #TrainingTips post is 4 rules to stick by if you’re wanting to lead a happier and healthier life.

They are basic needs which if you get them right can make profound differences to your life.

Eat Well

Our awareness of the importance of good nutrition has improved greatly but all these fad diets and meal replacement shake rubbish, which claim to give you the quick fixes, has steered people away from actually building a sustainable healthy diet of real foods and preparing it all themselves.  Aim to consume as little processed foods as possible and get some colour on your plate with 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.  Eat protein dense foods like lean meats or fish with every meal and eat healthy fats daily.

Sleep Deep

Sleep serves to restore our bodies and gives the body an opportunity to repair and rejuvenate.  But I’m sure you already knew that right, we always feel better after a good sleep.  Some studies have shown that the restorative functions of the body like muscle growth, protein synthesis and growth hormone release are most predominate during sleep, not only that but the rejuvenating properties of sleep for cognitive function too.  But how many of you actually get 7-8 hours sleep a night?  Take the time to wind down and remove distractions before bed, the appropriate dose of sleep will make you feel refreshed and energised.

Exercise Intelligently

Our training habits will change throughout our lives depending on our goals and recreational habits, but the aim should always be quality over quantity at all times.  But wherever you are, always work to increase your strength or at the very least maintain it, raise that heart rate 3-5 times a week through some form of physical excursion for longer than 30 minutes and take some rest or download periods.

Have Fun

If you’re not having fun and enjoying life you’re seriously doing something wrong and whatever it is stopping you from having fun, change it sooner rather than later.  You’ll be amazed how your perceptions and outlooks on the world change when you’re enjoying the life you’re living.  You are the only person limiting your happiness, as you have the control to choose the path you’re walking.

4 Rules To Stick By

It’s really as simple as that, eat well, sleep deeply, exercise intelligently and make sure you have a lot of fun doing it and in all other areas of your life.  Anyway I’m now off on a 3 day stag do, wish me luck as I can only imagine I’m going to be doing the last of these 4 over the next few days.

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend.

Stay strong and live, love and laugh!

Dan
